Nicole Richie is creating a fashion line for home shopping channel QVC.

Nicole Richie is designing a fashion line for QVC.

The 30-year-old designer will further expand her work with a "cute" range of clothing for the home shopping network, which will launch in February.

A source told Usmagazine.com: "The line is cute - it can be worn by teeny-tiny girls but also goes up to size XXXL. Nicole has a great fashion sense, and she's very hands-on."

The launch of the line will tie in with the premiere of reality TV show 'Fashion Star', on which Nicole - who has a line of womenswear called Winter Kate, an accessories line called House of Harlow 1960 and Nicole, her maternity collection - acts as a mentor for aspiring designers.

The reality TV star - who was recently named Influencer of the Year at Accessories Council Excellence (ACE) Awards for House of Harlow 1960 - recently said she designs for women who are not "afraid to take risks" and enjoy having "fun" with their wardrobes.

Describing her typical customer, she said: "[She is] a multitasker, a woman who wears many hats, someone who isn't afraid to take risks and have fun with fashion."

Foster's Father Accused Of Property Scam

Jodie Foster's father has been charged with 17 counts of grand theft over his alleged part in a property scam.

Lucius Fisher Foster Iii, who is estranged from his famous daughter, allegedly offered to build 20 homes in California and took deposits from prospective buyers, but the construction work was never carried out.

The 89 year old is accused of cheating his investors out of more than $100,000 (£62,500) and is facing 17 counts of grand theft and seven of contracting without a licence.

Deputy City Attorney Don Cocek says, "(He) told at least half the victims that he is Jodie's father as part of the scam to build up trust... no house was ever built."

Foster, who is free on his own recognisance, denies the charges and a pretrial hearing has been set for 17 November (11), according to the Associated Press.

British singer Cheryl Cole is planning a second trip to see soldiers in Afghanistan following her morale-boosting visit in September (11).

The Girls Aloud star jetted to the war-torn region to visit British troops posted in the country's Helmand Province and during her stay, she dished out meals to the servicemen and women and handled a gun in a training exercise.

The singer revealed she had become smitten with a "gorgeous" corporal named Andy she met during the four-day trip - and she's hoping to see him again on a return to Afghanistan.

She tells Britain's Daily Star, "Yes of course (I'll go back). I haven't set a date yet, but I will definitely be going back out to Afghanistan to see Andy."

Gene Simmons Lectures London Business Students

Rocker Gene Simmons shared the secrets of his success with students in London on Thursday night (10Nov11) at a surprise economics lecture.

The Kiss singer held a special workshop, entitled Dream Big with Gene Simmons, at the prestigious London Business School and he handed out commerce tips and advice.

Simmons has also written a column for Britain's The Sun, addressing the current global economic crisis - and the star reveals how he would fix the problems.

He writes, "The mess is our fault - corporations have no responsibility. Capitalism is the best thing that ever happened to human beings. The welfare state sounds wonderful but it doesn't work. Governments hand out more money than they have to support welfare and they land in debt. Then they have to borrow money... that's bad business.

"When I was growing up, my mother went to work. There was no welfare. If you worked, you made money. If you didn't work, you had to figure it out - you'd go and wash dishes."

Westlife Split After 'Cracks' Remained Despite Label Swap

Westlife decided to split after their plan to leave Simon Cowell's record label failed to repair the "cracks" in the band.

The Flying Without Wings hitmakers have announced they are to hang up their mics in 2012 following a greatest hits tour, after 14 years together.

They have insisted the split will be for good and that the move is not a publicity stunt, revealing they turned down millions to carry on.

Now Nicky Byrne admits the singers knew they had to go their separate ways after leaving Cowell's Syco imprint earlier this year (11), as the move did not improve relations within the band as they had hoped.

He tells Britain's Daily Record, "The cracks had formed and we were trying to patch things up when we left Syco, rather than quitting. We thought we would try and change everything to see if things improved and it wasn't to be.

"It wasn't one thing just a gradual progression. The amount of pressure to constantly do it at the right level was huge.

"There have been cracks internally for quite a while. Because we were releasing a greatest hits this year and re-negotiating our contract, it felt the right time.

"This was the moment where we manned up and said, 'We've done what we can with Westlife.'"

And the pop star reveals their manager, The X Factor judge Louis Walsh, has been left heartbroken by their decision: "He thought the idea of the split would go away when we told him. He finds it hard to talk about it.

"He hopes it'll be a long break but we've had to keep enforcing it to him, it's not. He's devastated."

Bruce Springsteen raised $160,000 (£100,000) for wounded soldiers by auctioning off his guitar, shirt and harmonica at a charity show in New York on Thursday (09Nov11).

The Boss performed at the Stand Up for Heroes gig at Manhattan's Beacon Theatre alongside comics including British funnyman Ricky Gervais, Kathy Griffin and Jon Stewart to raise money for charities which aid military families.

Springsteen helped raise even more cash on the night by offering up his belongings to the highest bidder, who subsequently donated the guitar to war veteran Andrew Kinard, who lost both his legs in Iraq, according to Rolling Stone.

The event raised nearly $400,000 (£250,000) in addition to ticket sales for the Bob Woodruff Foundation and ReMind.org.

Rihanna's manager has defended the singer's fast album release cycle, insisting pop stars "become disposable" if they wait several years between records.

The Umbrella hitmaker, who has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide and has released six records since 2005, is constantly recording new material and often lays down her vocals in a mobile studio while on tour.

She is currently preparing to unveil her latest offering Talk That Talk later this month (Nov11) and Rihanna's longtime manager Jay Brown is adamant the fast turnaround is good for her career.

He tells the Bbc, "Kids want new material all the time. I think you become disposable when you put out an album every three years. It's not like we force her. She goes into the studio because she likes it."

Conrad Murray Felt 'Entrapped' By Michael Jackson

Conrad Murray felt "entrapped" by Michael Jackson after agreeing to take him on as a patient, and insists the star frequently "begged" him for drugs.

The medic, who was convicted earlier this week (beg07Nov11) of accidentally killing Jackson with anaesthetic propofol, is adamant he did not suggest the Thriller icon should take the drug to help him sleep.

But he claims Jackson was an addict who "begged and pleaded" for strong medication.

Murray spoke to a film crew for new documentary Michael Jackson and the Doctor: A Fatal Friendship, which began filming in November 2009 - five months after Jackson's death - and is due to air in the U.S. on Friday (11Nov11).

He says, "I went there to take care of a healthy man, who said he was fine, to just keep surveillance. But once I got in there I was entrapped. He had very close acquaintances, but friends he did not have. He told me, 'I've found one friend, which is you'."

Speaking about Jackson's use of propofol - which the star referred to as "milk" - the doctor adds, "He begged and pleaded and said, 'Please Dr. Conrad, I need some milk so that I can get some sleep. If I don't get some sleep, everything will go down the drain.'

"He looked to me like (his image in) the Thriller (film). He looked that hysterical... I did not recommend it. I would never have recommended propofol to Mr. Jackson. He needed to get rid of it and resume a more normal state of sleep."

The documentary - which aired in the U.K. on Thursday (10Nov11) under the alternative title The Man Who Killed Michael Jackson - also contains a scene in which Jackson's lawyers, Ed Chernoff and Michael Flanagan, are heard discussing the star's notorious eccentric behaviour.

Chernoff says, "I think the media made him appear weirder than he is", prompting Flanagan to reply: "You gotta be kidding me - he can't be any weirder than he is."

Billy Crystal, Comedy Icon, Returning To The Oscars

Billy Crystal will host the 2012 Academy Awards following the shock departure of actor Eddie Murphy, with the 63-year-old comedian confirming the news on his Twitter page on Thursday (10th November 2011).

The comedy veteran has previously helmed the Oscars nine times, most recently in 2004, and is generally considered as being one of the finest hosts in Academy Awards history. Following numerous online polls, Crystal was the public's choice to replace Murphy, who stepped down after his creative partner Brett Ratner was forced to resign as producer following a series of ill-advised remarks during a question and answer session for his new movie Tower Heist. Although British comedian Ricky Gervais and Hollywood funny-man Chris Rock were also thought to be in contention for the job, Crystal was the runaway favorite and the comedian used his wry brand of humor when announcing the news last night, telling Twitter followers, "doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up my prescriptions. Looking forward to the show". Academy president Tom Sherak called the actor, "a comic legend and Oscar icon", adding, "It feels good to have him back where he belongs". Next year's ceremony is likely to feature a group of Hollywood heavyweights vying for the top awards, following several years of low-budget domination with the likes of The Hurt Locker and Slumdog Millionaire triumphing over blockbusters like Avatar and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Steven Spielberg's World War I epic 'War Horse' is the current favorite to take Best Picture, while George Clooney, Tom Hanks, Leonardo Dicaprio and Brad Pitt are tipped to receive nominations for Best Actor.

The decision to hire Crystal looks to be a safe but popular choice, given last year's hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco were generally criticized for a performance that lacked any real bite.

Conrad Murray has told how he felt ''entrapped'' by Michael Jackson, who wanted him to stick by him because he didn't have any close friends.

Conrad Murray felt "entrapped" by Michael Jackson.

The physician - who was found guilty of the involuntary manslaughter of the late singer on Monday (07.11.11) - said the 'Thriller' hitmaker was desperate for him to stick by him because he didn't have any other close friends.

Speaking in new documentary 'Michael Jackson and the Doctor: A Fatal Friendship' - which began filming in November 2009, five months after the star's death - Murray said: "I went there to take care of a healthy man, who said he was fine, to just keep surveillance. But once I got in there I was entrapped.

"He had very close acquaintances, but friends he did not have. He told me, 'I've found one friend, which is you'."

Michael died of acute Propofol intoxication in June 2009 with but Murray insists the dose of the anaesthetic which he gave the star the day he died was "inconsequential" and he hadn't mentioned it to the paramedics sent to treat his patient when he was found unconscious because it was such a small dose.

He said: "That's a very sad reason. Because it was inconsequential - 25 milligrams and the effect's gone.

"Means nothing. It had no effect. It was not an issue."

Murray insists he tried to wean Michael off the white-coloured drug, but the singer was "begging" for it by saying he wanted more "milk" to help him sleep.

He added: "He begged and pleaded and said, 'Please Dr. Conrad, I need some milk so that I can get some sleep. If I don't get some sleep, everything will go down the drain.'

"He looked to me like the Thriller. He looked that hysterical."

Morrissey Gives Permission For Smiths Song On Advert

The Smiths fans have reacted in anger after learning Morrissey has given permission for a version of one of their songs to be used in a John Lewis advert.

Morrissey has given John Lewis permission to use a version of a Smiths song for its Christmas campaign.

The 'Shoplifters of the World Unite' musician - who is famously anti-establishment - is said to be "delighted" that the group's song 'Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want' will be recorded by Slow Moving Millie, aka Colin Farrell's former wife Amelia Warner, for the campaign.

John Lewis' director of marketing Craig Inglis, said: "It wasn't a long and difficult road actually. It was relatively straightforward getting the rights. We approached the record company and Morrissey back in July, and they gave their approval. It is an iconic track from an iconic British band. We know our audience holds The Smiths and the bands from that era in high esteem."

Although fans have reacted angrily with one calling it a "serious crime against music" on twitter, this is not the first time the band have 'sold out'.

Earlier this year, a small section of 'This Charming Man' was also used in a John Lewis advertising campaign.

Ruth Patterson, the head of marketing at record label Rough Trade, which released many of the Smiths' albums said the move was a "good thing".

She explained: "I do like the idea of a really good song by a really good band being played in Middle England's living rooms. I'm sure that wasn't the song's intended purpose but I think that's a good thing."
