Barry Manilow Delivers On Musical Instrument Promise


Veteran crooner Barry Manilow has made good on his promise to donate $300,000 (£185,000)-worth of musical instruments to a high school in Missouri following the devastating tornadoes which flattened a small town earlier this year (11).

The natural disaster swept through Joplin in May (11), killing 162 people and leaving others homeless, and the singer was so touched by the tragedy, he vowed to help restock Joplin High School's music department with new instruments via his non-profit organisation, the Manilow Music Project.

Manilow delivered three truckloads of gifts, including a concert grand piano, to the school last week (27Oct11).

A statement from the crooner reads, "I know first-hand how invaluable music can be to get you through life's tough times. It is an honour and a privilege to help these kids after such a disaster."

Rihanna Hospitalised With Flu

Rihanna scrapped a show in Sweden on Monday (31Oct11) after she was hospitalised with a nasty bout of influenza.

The Umbrella beauty was set to perform the latest date on her Loud tour in Malmo, but fell ill and was taken to a nearby medical centre.

The singer has been hooked up to an intravenous drip in a bid to replenish fluids, and she uploaded a snap of herself in a hospital bed on Twitter.com while apologising to her fans for cancelling the show.

A statement from the singer reads, "I am sorry to everyone who was coming to my show in Malmo. I was so excited to perform for you all. It would have been a great time…so much better than being sick with the flu, ugh! I'm really disappointed I couldn't be there."

Justin Bieber: Sen. Klobuchar should be jailed

Justin Bieber apparently thinks Sen. Amy Klobuchar should be "locked up."


The teen pop singing sensation said the Minnesota Democrat should be jailed for her bill that would make it a felony to illegally stream copyrighted content.

Bieber became well known after videos of him singing covers of R&B songs went viral. He made several remarks about the sponsor of S.978 during an interview this morning with a Washington radio station, according to this story in the Minneapolis Star Tribune.


"Whoever she is, she needs to know that I'm saying she needs to be locked up -- put away in cuffs," Bieber is quoted as saying.


Fight for the Future, a group opposing the bill, has launched FreeBieber.org, a website featuring a photo of the Biebs behind bars that claims "Justin faces 5 brutal years in prison."


Klobuchar's spokesperson, Brigit Helgen, says Bieber fans can rest easy. He's not going to jail. She sent us this statement:

Justin Bieber must have been misled about the content of this bill. It's not about people posting their personal work on the Web. This is common sense legislation that passed through the Judiciary Committee with no objection from either party. The bill only covers the intentional commercial theft of things like books, commercial music, and movies, including foreign piracy.

Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales To Get A Gruesome Twist On New Tv Show


The BROTHERS GRIMM FAIRY TALES are set to be spun in a gruesome way, according to 'Will and Grace' star Sean Hayes. Hayes' new show, 'Grimm', in which he is executive producer, will bring back the original fairy tales but place them within a modern context.

Talking to New York Magazine's Vulture, Hayes said: "Most of the original fairy tales are actually really gruesome - very violent, very sexual. So we're exposing the truth of them. When Disney took over fairy tales, they were all cutesy and wonderful and very childlike, very positive. It was brilliant, but it wasn't the truth of them. People actually die, and they weren't about happy endings. And now, since life sucks for a lot of people, a lot of the content on TV and film reflects that, so we're a sign of the times." Within the show, the lead character is a homicide detective who must slay the antagonists of these stories. Hayes further elaborated: "I loved 'The X-Files'. The suspense of that show every single week, that's something we want to emulate. We aspire to replicate that tonally and story-wise."

Sean Hayes had previously worked as producer on the hit show 'Hot in Cleveland'. Other fairy tale adaptations set for this year include Abc's drama 'Once Upon a Time' and two film adaptations of Snow White, scheduled for release next year.
