Dakota Fanning 'Sexually Provocative' Advert Banned In Uk

Dakota Fanning has found herself at the centre of controversy after a perfume advert which she appears in was pulled by censors following accusations that it sexualised children. Fanning is 17 years-old now but made her name playing key child roles in the likes of 2005's 'War Of The Worlds' and the following year's adaptation of the book 'Charlotte's Web'. One of the actors involved in the hugely successful 'Twilight' series, the latest news comes at a time when the fourth instalment of that - 'Breaking Dawn - Part 1' is to be released in a couple of weeks.

The UK's Guardian newspaper reports that the Advertising Standards Authority received four complaints about the ad which saw Fanning model for Marc Jacobs perfume Oh, Lola! The advert sees the actress wearing a short skirt and holding a bottle of the perfume in what has been perceived as a "sexually provocative" position. A spokesperson for the Asa said, "We considered that the length of her dress, her leg and position of the perfume bottle drew attention to her sexuality. Because of that, along with her appearance, we considered the ad could be seen to sexualise a child. We therefore concluded that the ad was irresponsible and was likely to cause serious offence."

However, magazines that the ad appeared in, including ES Magazine and The Sunday Times Style in the UK claimed they'd not received any complaints. Distributor Coty UK said the picture was "similar to many other edgy images in those magazines".
