Michael Jackson's Death Bed Up For Auction
The bed in which Michael Jackson took his final breath is going under the hammer later this year. The queen-size bed will be put up for auction along with paintings, sculptures and other furniture in Los Angeles in December, according to the Associated Press.
The contents of Jackson's Holmby Hills mansion is likely to interest collectors, although it is unclear how much appeal the singer's deathbed will have. The bed was in the second-floor bedroom where the entertainer died in 2009 - his personal doctor Conrad Murray was convicted of his manslaughter on Monday after an emotional six week trial. Auctioneer Darren Julien, president of Julien's Auctions said, "We want to preserve the history of these items". A chalk-written note from one of the superstar's children will also go under the hammer, it reads, "I (heart) Daddy. Smile, it's for free" - the board is expected to fetch around $400.However, it is likely that the bed in which Dr Murray administered the fatal dose of Propofol will fetch the highest amount. In the high profile trial, Paramedics testified that Jackson was likely already dead by the time they arrived at the mansion, but Murray still insisted the singer be rushed to an emergency room.
Items from the auction will firstly be part of a free exhibition at Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills from 12th December to the 17th. The Holmby Hills mansion is currently up for sale, though not part of the auction - it is expected to sell for somewhere in the region on $18 million.
