Mickey Rourke Reflects On Career, "I Cant Make The Same Mistakes"
Mickey Rourke may now have fully recovered his career, but the former bad boy of Hollywood still can't avoid talking about his wild days of the 1990s where he became notorious for his parties and bingeing. The 59 year-old actor was talking to Reuters about his role in the film 'Immortals' due out in cinemas on Friday (November 11th 2011), but found himself again talking about the past and his subsequent re-ascension.
"The reputation I had for 20 years about being difficult and unprofessional is always going to stay. A lot of it was true, but I'm not really that way anymore", admitted Rourke, though also defied, "I am my own man, and I'm never going to just march to anybody's beat", going on to add "But I was out of work for 12 years because of the mistakes I made. I don't blame anybody else but myself. I can't make the same mistakes again. I'd be foolish. Those years out of work were a terrible, lonely, pathetic, desperate time."
The actor won huge acclaim for his turn in 'The Wrestler' in 2009 in what, following a role in 'Sin City' four years earlier, cemented his comeback - and he thanked the new crop of directors for not caring what past opinions from their older contemporaries on him had been, saying "young filmmakers are fearless. (Darren) Arnonofsky, (Robert) Rodriguez, Tarsem (Singh), they don't care what people said about me 20 years ago."
